Share Link Analytics

Every share link you create in GolemDrive comes with its own analytics. This means you can track not just whether someone downloaded a file, but whether they even opened the link in the first place.

Share link analytics track two distinct actions:

  • Views — someone opened the share link page in their browser. They saw the file name, the download button, and any other details you included. But they didn’t necessarily download anything.
  • Downloads — someone actually clicked download and received the file.

The difference between these two numbers tells you something useful. A link with lots of views but few downloads might mean the file isn’t what people expected, or maybe the password requirement is deterring them. A link where views and downloads are nearly equal means people are finding exactly what they came for.

For each share link, you can see:

MetricWhat it means
Total viewsHow many times the link page was opened
Total downloadsHow many times the file was actually downloaded
Activity timelineWhen views and downloads happened, shown over time
Approximate locationCountry-level data for who’s accessing the link
Access timestampsWhen each view and download occurred

Each share link’s analytics are completely independent. If you created three different share links for the same file (say, one for your team, one for a client, and one posted publicly), each link tracks its own views and downloads separately.

  1. Open the Share Links page from your sidebar
  2. Find the share link you want to check
  3. Click the chart icon (the small bar-chart icon next to the link)

This opens the analytics panel for that specific link, showing views, downloads, and the activity timeline.

You can also ask the AI chatbox. Try:

  • “How many downloads did my shared presentation get?”
  • “Show me analytics for my share links”
  • “Which share link has the most views?”

The AI will look up the data and give you a summary right in the chat.

Here are some practical ways to use this data:

Shared a contract or document with someone specific? Check the view count. If it’s at least 1, they opened the link. If the download count is 1, they grabbed the file. Simple confirmation without having to ask them.

If you shared the same file in multiple places — email to a client, posted in a team chat, linked on social media — create a separate share link for each. Then compare the analytics to see which channel drives the most engagement.

If a link has views but zero downloads, something might be wrong:

  • Is the password too complicated? Maybe simplify it or send it in a separate message.
  • Is the link about to expire? Check the expiry date.
  • Is the file too large for people on slow connections? Consider a compressed version.

If you set a download limit on a share link (say, 5 downloads), analytics let you see how many of those have been used. Combine this with expiry dates for precise control over who gets your files and for how long.

Share analytics work hand-in-hand with GolemDrive’s share controls:

  • Expiry dates — set a deadline, then use analytics to see how many downloads happened before it expired
  • Download limits — cap the number of downloads, and watch the count approach the limit
  • Password protection — analytics show you views (someone got to the password page) vs. downloads (someone entered the correct password and downloaded)

This combination gives you both control and visibility over your shared content.

Share link analytics show aggregate activity. GolemDrive does not reveal the identity of people who view or download your shared files. You’ll see counts, timestamps, and approximate country-level location — but not names, email addresses, or other personal information.

If you need to confirm a specific person accessed a file, the best approach is to create a unique share link just for them and check whether that link has any downloads.
