Sharing Folders

GolemDrive lets you share an entire folder, including all its subfolders and files, with a single link. Recipients see the full folder structure and can browse through it just like a file manager.

  1. Open your dashboard and find the folder you want to share.
  2. Right-click the folder and choose Share by Email to share via email, or choose Share (or click the Share button in the toolbar) to create a link.
  3. If sharing by email:
    • Add recipient email addresses (type and press Enter for each one).
    • Add an optional message.
    • Click Send.
  4. If creating a link:
    • A share link is created instantly.
    • Click Copy Link to copy it to your clipboard.
    • Send the link to your recipients.

You can add any combination of access controls when you create the share, or add them later:

  1. Go to Share Links in the sidebar.
  2. Find the folder share and click the edit icon.
  3. Set any of these controls:
    • Password protection — toggle on and type a password. Recipients must enter it before they can browse the folder.
    • Expiry date — toggle on and choose when the link should stop working.
    • Download limit — toggle on and set the maximum number of downloads.
    • View-only mode — toggle on to let recipients browse and preview files but not download them.
  4. Click Save. Changes take effect immediately.

See Passwords, Expiry & Access Controls for detailed instructions on each setting.

When someone opens a folder share link, they get a two-panel layout that works like a file manager:

  • The left side shows a folder tree displaying the full structure of the shared folder.
  • Click any folder in the tree to jump directly to it.
  • Subfolders can be expanded and collapsed.
  • This makes it easy to navigate even deeply nested folders without getting lost.
  • The right side shows the files in the currently selected folder.
  • Files are displayed in a sortable list showing name, size, type, and date.
  • Click any column header to sort by that column.
  • Click a file to download it (unless view-only mode is on).
  • At the top of the right panel, breadcrumbs show the current location within the folder structure.
  • The breadcrumb trail shows each folder from the root down to the current location.
  • Click any folder name in the breadcrumbs to jump back up to that level.

Example breadcrumb: Shared Folder > Projects > Design > Final

Recipients can download individual files from within the folder:

  1. Navigate to the file using the folder tree or breadcrumbs.
  2. Click the file or click the download button next to it.
  3. The file downloads to their device.

Recipients do not need a GolemDrive account. They browse and download directly in their browser.

All folder shares appear on the Share Links page alongside your other shares.

  1. Go to Share Links in the sidebar.
  2. Find the folder share in the list.
  3. Available actions:
    • Copy URL — copy the link to share again.
    • Edit settings — change password, expiry, download limit, or view-only mode.
    • View analytics — see views and downloads (see Share Analytics).
    • Revoke — disable the link immediately.
    • Delete — permanently remove the link (revoke first).

Use folder sharing when the organization of files matters — project folders, course materials, photo archives organized by date, document libraries with logical groupings.

Use collections when you want to cherry-pick specific files from different locations and share them as a flat list.

  • Project folders — share a client’s project folder with all assets, documents, and deliverables in their original structure.
  • Course materials — organize lectures, readings, and assignments by week or topic and share the top-level folder.
  • Photo archives — share photos organized by event, date, or category.
  • Document sets — legal documents, manuals, or reference materials grouped into logical folders.
  • Team handoffs — share an organized set of files with a new team member so they can browse and find what they need.
