File Versions
Ever overwrite a file and immediately wish you hadn’t? GolemDrive has your back. Every time you upload a new version of a file, the previous version is saved automatically.
How versioning works
Section titled “How versioning works”When you upload a file with the same name to the same location, GolemDrive doesn’t replace the old one. Instead, it keeps the old version around and marks the new upload as the latest. You always see the most recent version by default, but all the older versions are still there if you need them.
View version history
Section titled “View version history”To see all the versions of a file:
- Right-click the file
- Choose Version History
- A panel opens showing every version, with dates and times
You can see when each version was uploaded, making it easy to find the one you’re looking for.
Download an older version
Section titled “Download an older version”From the version history panel, click the download button next to any version. That specific version is decrypted and downloaded to your computer, just like a normal download.
Restore a previous version
Section titled “Restore a previous version”Made a mistake in the latest version? You can roll back:
- Open the version history
- Find the version you want to go back to
- Click Restore
This makes the older version the current one again. Don’t worry — the version you’re replacing is still saved in the history too, so you’re not losing anything.
Storage and limits
Section titled “Storage and limits”Old versions are kept to give you peace of mind, not to eat up your storage. Your plan includes a generous number of versions per file. For the vast majority of files, you’ll never come close to hitting the limit.
If you want to free up space, you can manually delete specific old versions from the version history panel.
- Great for documents you update often. If you regularly revise a report or presentation, versioning means you can always get back to any point in its history.
- Each version is encrypted separately. Just like regular files, every version is encrypted on your device before upload. Old versions are just as secure as the current one.
- Version history is per file. Renaming a file or moving it to a different folder doesn’t affect its version history.
