Offline Access

Sometimes you need your files when the internet isn’t available. Maybe you’re on a plane, in a spotty Wi-Fi area, or just want the peace of mind that your important files are always within reach. That’s what offline access is for.

Find a file you want available offline and mark it for offline access. GolemDrive downloads the file and stores it securely on your device. From that point on, you can open it anytime — internet or not.

When you mark a file for offline use:

  1. The encrypted file is downloaded from GolemDrive’s servers
  2. It’s decrypted on your device
  3. The file is stored locally on your device, still encrypted, using your encryption key

So even the offline copy sitting on your device is protected. If someone got access to your device’s storage, they wouldn’t be able to read your offline files without your encryption key.

Go to the Offline page in the sidebar. This shows all the files you’ve marked for offline access. You can open, view, or work with them just like any other file — the difference is they don’t need an internet connection to load.

Don’t need a file offline anymore? Remove it from your offline collection. The locally stored copy is deleted from your device, and the file remains safely stored in GolemDrive as usual.

  • Traveling. Going somewhere with unreliable internet? Mark your important documents before you leave.
  • Presentations. Have a big presentation? Keep it offline so you’re not dependent on conference Wi-Fi.
  • Reference documents. Files you check frequently — contracts, guides, specs — are great candidates for offline access.
  • Areas with poor connectivity. If you regularly work in places with weak or no internet, offline access keeps you productive.
  • Offline files use device storage. Each offline file takes up space on your device, so be selective. You probably don’t need your entire photo library available offline.
  • Files stay in sync. If you update a file while online, the offline copy updates too (next time you connect). You always have the latest version.
  • It’s still encrypted. Your offline files are encrypted on your device. Offline doesn’t mean unprotected.
