Roles & Permissions
Every team member has a role that determines what they can and can’t do. This keeps things organized and prevents accidental changes by people who should only be viewing files.
The four roles
Section titled “The four roles”The Owner is the person who created the team. There’s only one Owner per team.
- Full control over everything
- Can invite and remove any member, including Admins
- Can change anyone’s role
- Can delete the team entirely
- Manages team billing and subscription
Admins are trusted members who help manage the team day-to-day.
- Can invite new members and remove existing ones (except the Owner)
- Can change roles for Editors and Viewers
- Can create, rename, and delete shared folders
- Can upload, download, edit, and share files
- Cannot delete the team
- Cannot change billing settings
Editor
Section titled “Editor”Editors are active contributors who work with files but don’t manage people.
- Can upload new files to team folders
- Can download any file in the team
- Can rename, move, and delete files they have access to
- Can create share links for team files
- Cannot invite or remove members
- Cannot change team settings
Viewer
Section titled “Viewer”Viewers have read-only access. They can see what’s there but can’t change anything.
- Can browse all team folders and files
- Can download files
- Cannot upload, rename, move, or delete files
- Cannot create share links
- Cannot invite or remove members

Changing someone’s role
Section titled “Changing someone’s role”If you’re the Owner or an Admin, you can change a member’s role anytime:
- Go to the team page
- Find the member in the list
- Click their current role
- Select the new role
The change takes effect immediately. No need to remove and re-invite them.
Choosing the right role
Section titled “Choosing the right role”- Give Viewer to people who just need to access files — like clients reviewing deliverables or family members browsing photos
- Give Editor to people who actively contribute — like coworkers uploading project files
- Give Admin to people you trust to help manage the team — like a project lead or co-organizer
- Keep Owner for yourself — since the Owner controls billing and can delete the team
