Spending Alerts

Nobody likes being surprised by a “you’ve hit your limit” message right when they need to upload something important. Spending alerts let you set up early warnings so you always know when you’re getting close.

GolemDrive lets you set alerts for three types of usage:

Get notified when your storage is filling up. You can set alerts at any combination of these thresholds:

  • 80% used — a gentle heads-up that you’re getting there
  • 90% used — time to think about cleaning up or upgrading
  • 95% used — you’re almost at the limit

Same idea, but for your monthly upload and download bandwidth:

  • 80% used — you’ve used most of your monthly transfer allowance
  • 90% used — consider slowing down on large transfers or upgrading
  • 95% used — very little bandwidth left this billing cycle

If you use GolemDrive’s AI assistant, you have a token balance. You can set alerts for when your balance is running low, so you can top up before you run out mid-conversation.

GolemDrive also watches for unusual spikes in your usage. If your bandwidth or storage usage jumps significantly above your normal patterns, you’ll get an automatic alert — even if you haven’t hit a threshold.

This can be a useful early signal for unauthorized access. If someone else gains access to your account and starts downloading files in bulk, the anomaly detector will flag it.

  1. Go to Account > Settings > Spending Alerts
  2. Toggle on the alert types you want
  3. Choose your thresholds (80%, 90%, 95%)
  4. Pick how you want to be notified

For each alert type, you can choose how you’d like to be notified:

  • Email — a message sent to your account email address
  • In-app notification — a banner in your GolemDrive dashboard
  • Both — email and in-app, so you don’t miss it regardless of where you are

When an alert fires, it appears in your notification center. You can acknowledge it to clear it from your dashboard. Acknowledging an alert just means “I’ve seen this” — it doesn’t change your usage or thresholds.

If your usage stays above the threshold, the alert won’t fire again until the next time it crosses the threshold (for example, after your bandwidth resets and then climbs back up).

If you’re not sure what to turn on, here’s a good starting point:

  • Storage at 90% — gives you time to clean up before hitting the wall
  • Bandwidth at 80% — especially useful if you share files publicly and downloads can spike unexpectedly
  • AI tokens when low — so you can purchase more tokens before running out
  • Anomaly detection on — always a good idea for security

You can always adjust these later as you get a feel for your typical usage patterns.
