Search
When you’ve got hundreds (or thousands) of files, scrolling through folders isn’t practical. That’s what the search bar is for.
How to search
Section titled “How to search”Click the search bar at the top of the dashboard (or press the keyboard shortcut) and start typing. Results appear instantly as you type — no need to press enter and wait.
What you can search for
Section titled “What you can search for”File and folder names
Section titled “File and folder names”The simplest search: type part of a file or folder name. Looking for your tax return? Just type “tax” and anything with that word in the name shows up.
File type
Section titled “File type”Search by extension or type. Try things like “pdf” or “spreadsheet” to narrow down what you’re looking for.
What’s inside your files
Section titled “What’s inside your files”This is where it gets really useful. GolemDrive can search the contents of your files, not just the names. Looking for a document that mentions a specific client name, a particular date, or a phrase you remember? Type it in and GolemDrive will find files that contain that text.
This works because GolemDrive extracts searchable information from your files on your device before encryption — the search data is stored separately so you can find things without compromising your file’s security.
Filter your results
Section titled “Filter your results”Got too many results? Use the filters to narrow things down:
- File type — Show only documents, images, videos, or other specific types
- Date — Find files uploaded or modified within a certain time range
- Size — Filter by file size if you’re looking for something particularly large or small
- Be specific when you can. The more specific your search, the faster you’ll find what you need. “Q3 report 2024” will get you there faster than just “report.”
- Search works across all folders. You don’t need to be in a specific folder to search — it looks through everything in your account.
- Try different terms. If your first search doesn’t find what you want, try different keywords. The file might be named differently than you remember.
- Use search to clean up. Try searching for a file type (like “png” or “mp4”) to find all files of that type. Handy when you want to organize or delete in bulk.
