Mobile & Desktop App
GolemDrive works as a Progressive Web App (PWA). That means you can install it directly from your browser and use it just like a regular app on your phone, tablet, or computer. No app store required.
How to install
Section titled “How to install”The installation process is slightly different depending on your browser and device, but it only takes a few seconds.
Chrome or Edge (desktop and Android)
Section titled “Chrome or Edge (desktop and Android)”Look for the install icon in the right side of the address bar — it usually looks like a monitor with a down arrow or a plus sign. Click it, then confirm the installation. GolemDrive will be added to your desktop or home screen.
Safari on iPhone or iPad
Section titled “Safari on iPhone or iPad”- Open GolemDrive in Safari
- Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up)
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen
- Tap Add to confirm
Android (Chrome or other browsers)
Section titled “Android (Chrome or other browsers)”Most Android browsers will show a banner at the bottom of the screen asking if you’d like to Add to Home Screen. Tap it and confirm. If the banner doesn’t appear, open the browser menu (three dots) and look for “Add to Home Screen” or “Install app.”
What changes after installing
Section titled “What changes after installing”Once installed, GolemDrive opens as a standalone app — no browser address bar, no tabs, no browser navigation buttons. It looks and feels like a native application.
- It gets its own icon on your home screen or desktop
- It shows up in your device’s app switcher
- On desktop, it gets its own window separate from your browser
Offline access
Section titled “Offline access”Files you’ve marked for offline access are available without an internet connection. When you open the GolemDrive app while offline, you can still browse and open those files. Everything else will load normally once you’re back online.
Automatic updates
Section titled “Automatic updates”You don’t need to manually update the app. GolemDrive updates itself in the background whenever a new version is available. The next time you open the app after an update, you’ll be on the latest version automatically.
Push notifications
Section titled “Push notifications”If you enable notifications, GolemDrive can send you push alerts for things like:
- Someone shared a file with you
- A team invite is waiting for your response
- Spending alerts or quota warnings
- Download activity on your shared files
You can manage exactly which notifications you receive in Account > Notification Preferences.
- Install the PWA for a faster experience. The installed app loads faster than visiting GolemDrive through a browser tab because it caches core assets on your device.
- Works on all platforms. Whether you’re on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android, the PWA experience is the same.
- Uninstalling is easy. On desktop, right-click the app icon and choose “Uninstall.” On mobile, remove it the same way you’d remove any other app — long-press and delete.
