Creating & Managing Share Links
GolemDrive lets you share any file or folder by creating a link. The person you share with does not need a GolemDrive account. They just open the link and download the file.
Create a share link
Section titled “Create a share link”- Open your dashboard and find the file you want to share.
- Select the file by clicking on it or checking the box next to it.
- Click the Share button in the toolbar. You can also right-click the file and choose Copy Link.
- A share link is created instantly.
- Click Copy Link to copy the URL to your clipboard.
- Paste the link and send it however you like: email, text message, Slack, Teams, WhatsApp, social media, or anywhere else you can paste text.
The recipient opens the link in their browser and sees a download page. No sign-up or login required.
Create multiple links for the same file
Section titled “Create multiple links for the same file”You can create as many share links as you want for the same file. Each link is completely independent with its own settings, download count, and analytics. This is useful when you want different rules for different people. For example, send one link to your team with no password and another link to a client with a password and expiry date.
Share by email
Section titled “Share by email”- Right-click a file or folder in your dashboard.
- Select Share by Email from the context menu.
- In the dialog that appears, type a recipient email address and press Enter to add it. Repeat for each recipient. The field auto-completes from your contacts as you type.
- Add an optional message (up to 500 characters). This message appears in the email the recipient receives.
- Set access controls if you want them:
- Toggle Password Protection on and type a password.
- Toggle Expiry on and pick a date.
- Toggle Download Limit on and enter a number.
- Toggle View Only on to prevent downloading.
- The email addresses you entered are automatically saved as allowed emails, meaning only those specific addresses can access the link. Anyone else who gets the link sees “access denied.”
- Click Send.
- Each recipient receives an email containing the download link and your optional message.
Manage your share links
Section titled “Manage your share links”- Click Share Links in the left sidebar of your dashboard.
- You see a list of every share link you have created.
- Each link shows the following information at a glance:
- Status badge — active (green), expired (gray), or revoked (red).
- Password indicator — a lock icon if the link is password-protected.
- Download count — how many times the file has been downloaded through this link.
- Expiry date — when the link will stop working, if set.
- Email restriction badge — shows if the link is restricted to specific email addresses.
- From this page you can perform these actions on any link:
- Copy URL — copy the link to your clipboard.
- View analytics — see views, downloads, and activity over time (see Share Analytics).
- Edit settings — change password, expiry, download limit, or other settings.
- Revoke — disable the link immediately.
Revoke (disable) a link
Section titled “Revoke (disable) a link”Revoking a link makes it stop working immediately. Anyone who clicks it after that sees a message saying the link is no longer available.
- Go to the Share Links page in the sidebar.
- Find the link you want to revoke.
- Click the Revoke button on that link.
- Confirm when prompted.
- The link stops working immediately.
You can re-enable a revoked link later. The URL stays the same, so anyone who saved it can use it again once you turn it back on.
Re-enable a revoked link
Section titled “Re-enable a revoked link”- Go to the Share Links page.
- Find the revoked link (it has a red status badge).
- Click the enable/re-activate button.
- The link starts working again with the same URL and settings.
Delete a link permanently
Section titled “Delete a link permanently”Deleting a link removes it from your account entirely. You cannot undo this.
- Revoke the link first (see above).
- On the Share Links page, find the revoked link.
- Click the Delete button.
- Confirm when prompted.
- The link is permanently removed.
What about encryption?
Section titled “What about encryption?”Your files are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded to GolemDrive. When someone downloads a file through a share link, GolemDrive handles the decryption securely so the recipient gets the original file. The file is never stored unencrypted on GolemDrive servers.
